Digital Akanksha Nigam: My Journey as a Digital Marketer in Andheri, Mumbai

The digital world is changing every day. New platforms, marketing strategies, tools, algorithms, and technologies continue to change the way businesses connect with their audiences. For professionals, this constant change creates both challenges and opportunities. For me, it has become a reason to keep learning, experimenting, and growing.

I am Akanksha Nigam, a certified digital marketer based in Andheri, Mumbai, and I am currently building my career in the field of digital marketing. My journey into digital marketing has been an interesting transition because I come from a sales background. Moving from sales into a field that combines creativity, technology, content, data, and strategy has given me a completely different perspective on professional growth.

My decision to learn digital marketing came from a desire for career growth and learning new digital skills. I wanted to understand how businesses reach people online, how brands create visibility, how audiences engage with content, and how digital campaigns can contribute to business growth.

Today, I see digital marketing not simply as a career option but as a field where there is always something new to learn.

From SEO and social media marketing to content marketing, performance marketing, Google Ads, email marketing, WordPress, and analytics, my learning journey has introduced me to different aspects of the digital ecosystem. At the same time, it has shown me that becoming a good digital marketer requires more than simply knowing how to use different tools. It requires curiosity, adaptability, creativity, analytical thinking, and a willingness to continuously improve.

This is the story of my journey so far as Digital Akanksha Nigam and my experience of building my professional identity as a digital marketer in Andheri, Mumbai.

Who Is Digital Akanksha Nigam?

I am Akanksha Nigam, a certified digital marketer based in Andheri, Mumbai, with a growing interest in building a career across different areas of digital marketing.

When I think about my professional journey, I don’t see myself as someone who has already reached the destination. Instead, I see myself as someone who is still learning, exploring, and developing the skills needed to become a strong digital marketing professional.
That mindset is an important part of my personal brand.

The name Digital Akanksha Nigam represents more than just my professional identity. For me, it represents my interest in digital marketing, my willingness to learn new skills, and my commitment to growing with an industry that is constantly evolving.
I believe that digital marketing is one of those fields where learning never really stops. A strategy that works today may need to be changed tomorrow. Search engines evolve, social media platforms introduce new features, consumer behaviour changes, and businesses constantly look for better ways to connect with their audiences.

That is why I want my personal brand to reflect continuous learning, creativity, adaptability, and professional growth.
My background in sales has also influenced the way I look at marketing. Sales taught me the importance of understanding people, communicating effectively, identifying needs, and building relationships. Digital marketing has allowed me to take those ideas into the online environment and explore how businesses can connect with audiences through digital channels.
As I continue developing my career, I want to combine these experiences with my digital marketing knowledge.

My goal is not just to learn individual marketing tools. I want to understand how different digital channels work together to create meaningful results for businesses and audiences.

How My Journey Into Digital Marketing Started

Every career journey has a starting point, and mine began with a simple question:

What can I learn that will help me grow professionally and prepare me for the future?

Coming from a sales background, I already had experience with communication, customer interaction, understanding requirements, and working toward business goals. However, I also realized that the professional world was becoming increasingly digital.

Businesses were using websites, search engines, social media, online advertising, email campaigns, content, and analytics to reach customers. This made me curious about what happens behind these digital activities.

I wanted to understand the process.

How does a business appear on Google?

How does a brand build visibility on social media?

How do digital advertisements reach the right audience?

How does content influence people?

How can businesses measure whether their marketing efforts are actually working?

These questions encouraged me to explore digital marketing.

Initially, the field seemed very broad. There were so many areas to understand, and each area had its own concepts, tools, and strategies. SEO was different from social media marketing. Performance marketing required a different way of thinking. Content marketing focused on communication and audience value, while analytics involved numbers and interpretation.

Instead of seeing this complexity as a problem, I started seeing it as an opportunity to learn.

I decided to formally develop my knowledge through DGMark Institute, where I gained exposure to different areas of digital marketing and worked toward becoming a certified digital marketer.

The learning process helped me understand that digital marketing is not one single skill.

It is an ecosystem of interconnected skills. Why I Chose Digital Marketing as a Career

My decision to choose digital marketing was primarily driven by two things: career growth and the desire to learn digital skills.

I wanted to move toward a career where I could continue learning while also using creativity and strategic thinking.

Digital marketing offered exactly that combination.

One of the things I appreciate about this field is that it brings together different types of thinking. There is a creative side involving content, communication, social media, and ideas. There is also an analytical side involving data, performance, conversion rates, search behaviour, and campaign results.

Then there is the technical side.

This combination makes digital marketing challenging but also exciting.

I also like the fact that digital marketing is constantly changing. While continuous change can sometimes be difficult, I believe it creates opportunities for people who are willing to adapt.

For me, learning digital marketing is therefore not just about preparing for a particular job. It is about developing a skill set that can evolve along with the industry.

My sales background also helped me understand why marketing needs to be connected with people and business objectives. Marketing is not only about getting attention. It is also about understanding an audience and creating communication that provides value.

That is one reason I am particularly interested in the relationship between digital growth and meaningful audience engagement.

I want my work as a digital marketer to focus on both.

My Digital Marketing Learning Journey

To build my foundation in digital marketing, I completed my training at DGMark Institute and became a certified digital marketer.

My learning journey covered several important areas of digital marketing, including:

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Content Marketing
  • Performance Marketing
  • Google Ads
  • Email Marketing
  • WordPress
  • Google Analytics

Learning these different areas gave me a broader understanding of how digital marketing works.

Before entering this field, it was easy to think of digital marketing as simply promoting a business online. But as I started learning, I understood that effective digital marketing involves research, planning, implementation, measurement, optimization, and continuous improvement.

For example, SEO is not simply about adding keywords to a website.

Content is not simply about writing articles.

Social media is not simply about posting images.

Paid advertising is not simply about spending money to get clicks.

Every activity needs a purpose.

A successful digital marketing strategy needs to understand the target audience, business objectives, competition, communication, customer journey, and performance.

This broader understanding has made my learning journey much more meaningful.

Learning SEO

SEO is one of the areas that has particularly interested me because it combines content, search behaviour, strategy, and technical understanding.

While learning SEO, I began to understand how websites can be optimized to improve their visibility in search engines and how different factors can influence search performance.

At the same time, SEO introduced me to an area that I am still actively working on: technical SEO.

Technical SEO is one of the skills I want to strengthen further. Coming from a sales background, understanding technical concepts has been a new challenge for me.

But I see this challenge positively.

It has reminded me that learning something difficult does not mean that it is beyond my ability. It simply means that I need to spend more time understanding it, practicing it, and applying it.

That attitude has become an important part of my professional development.

Learning Beyond the Basics

One of the biggest lessons I have taken from my digital marketing journey is that certification is only a starting point.

Completing a course or receiving a certification gives you a foundation, but becoming a capable professional requires practical learning and continuous development.

The digital industry changes too quickly for anyone to stop learning.

That is why I want to continue developing my technical skills alongside my creative and strategic skills.

I am particularly interested in understanding how SEO, performance marketing, content, social media, websites, and analytics can work together.

For example, a website may have great content, but if users cannot find it, the content may not reach its potential audience.

Similarly, an advertising campaign may generate traffic, but understanding what happens after users reach the website is equally important.

This interconnected nature of digital marketing is one of the reasons I find the industry so interesting.

It encourages me to look beyond individual tasks and understand the bigger picture.

What I Enjoy Most About Digital Marketing

If I had to choose one thing that I enjoy most about digital marketing, I would say everything that involves learning, creativity, data, and audience understanding.
Digital marketing gives me the opportunity to combine different interests.

I enjoy exploring new ideas and understanding how they can be transformed into digital strategies. I also enjoy learning how audiences behave online and how brands can communicate with them more effectively.

Another aspect I appreciate is the measurable nature of digital marketing.

In traditional marketing, measuring the exact impact of an activity can sometimes be difficult. In digital marketing, there are many ways to evaluate performance and understand what is working and what needs improvement.

This creates an interesting balance between creativity and analysis. You can have a creative idea, but you also need to understand whether that idea is achieving the desired objective. That is where I believe digital marketing becomes especially interesting.

It is not only about creating something.
It is about creating, measuring, learning, and improving. And that cycle of improvement is something I genuinely enjoy.

My Interest in Performance Marketing

Among the different areas I have explored, performance marketing is one of the areas in which I feel most confident.

What attracts me to performance marketing is its focus on measurable outcomes.

Rather than looking only at visibility or reach, performance marketing encourages marketers to think about specific objectives and results. This way of thinking interests me because it connects marketing activities with business outcomes.
A campaign should have a purpose.

Whether that purpose is generating leads, increasing website traffic, driving conversions, building awareness, or engaging a particular audience, marketers need to understand what they are trying to achieve.
Performance marketing has therefore helped me think more about the relationship between:

Strategy → Audience → Campaign → Data → Optimization → Results

I enjoy the idea that data can help guide decisions.

At the same time, I know that performance marketing is a field where there is always more to learn. Platforms change, audience behaviour changes, advertising features evolve, and campaign strategies need to adapt.

That makes continuous learning especially important.
